dropped in this evening, explaining she tried to get out of returning to G.E. but they said if she didn't come back now, her name would be removed from the list, so she had to go. Her job is only assured for two months so we may get her back in the fall.

Took Bab and Rog canoeing in the lagoons this evening and they both paddled and did well. The water looked like sewage and there was much worrying about touching their faces etc with wet hands on account of typhoid but I guess no harm was done. Oh, for the clean sparkling water of Lake Fairlee though.

Heard today that GM got the jump on us on acquainting the Mt. Washington Railway with the Pikes Peak job. I hadn't sent Boston dope because I'd been unable to get photos of the completed team out there. But now, I'm all set and am firing up Neal Donovan. However, it took considerable wind out of my sails here at Erie. I saw the possibilities of the job in June but no one here except Speicher knew it. It's a lesson that when you see something good like that, you should advertise it to your superiors and get some push behind the thing.

Heard the Maine Central bought 2 Alco switches and we are hoping for 2 more on the B&M. Our report is at last bearing fruit.
