Did a lot of chasing around yesterday and today on a job of Rudy's for changing over a 1000HP switcher of Alco's in Denver from speed to split pole control for a demonstration on the Rock Island in Texas and found out that all has not been so smooth on the Alco front lately. One good thing, they are pushing ahead fast with their 2000HP streamliner unit and have sold it to the Rock Island. Let us hope it is a big success and gives E-M a run for their money.

Sent Neal Donovan a draft of the Maine Central small diesel report and a bunch of Mt. Washington dope today. I recommended we take a fling at Augusta-Gardiner and Lewiston-Auburn with a 43 ton, when we have the demonstration up here this fall. Neither job is clean cut for so small a locomotive but as I see it, there is a fair chance, and "nothing ventured, nothing gained" in this case.

Ben and Tony came in this evening, for our exchange of vacation anecdotes. They went to Gaspe again. We tried to play some bridge but it was pretty well bogged down by anecdotes, music, "dividends" and general hilarity. We have known and enjoyed them for over 12 years and to me they seem about the same now as they did then, when over at 1308 West 9th, we had our first get-together.
