Got an urgent wire from A,L.Jones, Denver, this morning saying Atlas price on American Crystal Sugar loco. was near $20,000 and to wire our lowest acceptable price. Henry finally set it at $20,500 and I wired it to Jones. Now it's up to him and the gods.
We were "moved around" in the office today but I stayed put. Jake went next door with Shapter and Art Packer came in with us. (Rudy, Doc Gillillan and me). I got a new chair (Maurice's old one) and a new monophone of my own out of it and what beyond that I don't know - that is, how it affects my work is unknown. "Whitey" will be back from his vacation Monday and then we may learn something more definite. No letter yet from Alco and no inkling about the "Gunn move" so I don't know right now exactly what the future holds. "Cash" last winter gave me to understand I might get a raise October 1st -no news of that yet either.
Affairs in Europe growing tenser by the minute - it looks almost as if war is inevitable.
And from that we pass to a picnic and swim on the peninsula this evening with the Reeds.

Woke up with a headache this morning that grew progressively worse all day - my eyes I think - until when I got home. I didn't know if I could make the grade this evening or not when Charlie and Barbara Reed were due to see our Shanty Shane film. But after some aspirin and lying down for a while it cleared up almost entirely and we had a swell evening. Things in Europe about to pop apparently but Hitler has had a session with Neville Henderson.
