would be rather a difficult situation in our plant quite conceivably. Whitey feels probably we should bid and should at least go ahead on that assumption at present.
Cash had a very nice little New Year's party in his office from 3 to 3:30 which actually out did Whitey's in the way of refreshments (no drinks however) but not in music. Martha and June sang, but "All the World is Wating [sic] for the Sunrise" somehow didn't get across as well as "Silent Night."
Gil Painter was in town today in connection with an inquiry from the Canadian Govt. for 100 diesel-electric switchers. It was odd to hear him tell of a train ride with some Canadian Flying Corps recruits who evidently acted up much worse than the gang I saw last night coming home from Cleveland. The Canadians removed all the toilet paper from the "Men" and festooned it about the cars, even wrapping up one guy so thoroughly with it, he looked like a mummy. So I guess our boys aren't so bad after all.
Left early and stopped in to see Henry Guy who has been laid up with a bad back for several days as a result of a fall in his apartment after too much binging around X-mas. Gordon McDonald and I went together and took Henry a quart of Scotch. While there, Whitey, Cash, Totten & all dropped in and we had a time of it cheering Henry and imbibing a couple of highballs simultaneously. Poor old Henry now lives there alone since Ed Waller returned to Schenectady and it is tough on him to be laid up even tho he has plenty of callers from "Helen" Emmet to Hays Clemens and the G.E. gang. Henry is a swell guy - I like him.
