Dougall wanted proposition out of here tomorrow. So I said I'd see what could be done. Louis was tied up and so was the Cost Dept. on account of the shut down. So I wired Dougall the situation and told him to advise latest date he could stand. Dougall asked for control to compete with (w) H.L. plus one 1300/650 volt compressor. After wiring him I began to dig back into the old records and the job turned from a bore into something quite intriguing - a good example of how any job can be made interesting if you apply yourself to it.

The locomotive was built originally in 1914 for the Panama Pacific Exposition at 1200 volts and in 1916 was rebuilt at Erie for 600 volts and sold to Bush Terminal. Originally it had a dynametor blower which is again needed for ventilation of motor and to run compressor and control on 1300 volts, and assuming the control can be repaired it is now OK for 1300 volts with minor changes. Also Batzold inspected the loco. in 1935 when W.C.F.& N. was considering buying it and it was in reasonably good shape. Also we quoted on a similar changeover in 1935. So I was able to write Dougall a letter at 5 PM giving him all this dope and putting him in a much better position to know what to do to kick [[circled w]] who are strong on this property. We have all drawings for 1200 volt operation and should be able to give customer better service than [[circled w]]. Tomorrow I should be able to clean this up and in a satisfactory way.

Had a picnic on the Peninsula this evening with Reeds and Lamboms. Barbara seemed perfectly friendly so the spat has evidently blown over and I'm glad. Little Ann Lambom is a perfect darling and Sonny
