We slept late - about 9 AM which is late for us these days - a morning of shopping and soon after lunch off for the beach where we had a fair bake although the sun persisted in getting under a big cloud periodically. Bab is the fish of the family, simply loving the water. And Rog is fast developing into one too. The Colonel forgot to bring his suit from L'ville, so he doesn't go in but comes and bakes on the beach and maybe enjoys himself more. He isn't fond of the water. We brought both cars so I could break away early and head for Chautauqua where I had supper with Mother and spent the evening with her. She seems quite well and just got a prescription from Rev. Foglesong for inducing sleep that worked on her much better than the pheno-barbital she has been using, so that should be a big help. With more sleep, she should be less nervous. The concert was lovely and all in all I enjoyed my visit very, very much. I do enjoy being with Mother when she is something like herself. I drove home, top down, in the moonlight and it was good. I realize how much there is for me to do, to accomplish, and that I can be successful in it if I put my shoulder to the wheel conscientiously and give my job and my personal life all I have. If I do that, the future will care for itself.

Up again about 9 AM - what a life! We went to the beach twice today and I made some progress on renewing my Tallwood sunburn. Rog made his first attempt at swimming today and to our amazement, he began by doing the crawl - not bad form at that - head under water and he would swim 6 or 8 ft. before standing up for air! He just seemed to take to it naturally.
