Shot Dougall another wire pleading for a dynamotor on the Waterloo job.

This evening we drove to Chautauqua to hear "Il Trovatore" with Mother and it was excellent - to think that's another gem I've been passing up all these years. Alice George, a new soprano, was fine and Joan Peebles as usual superb! The men left one a little unsatisfied, being no Giglis or Tibbets, but they got by pretty well. And young Maxwell Lide of Erie had a small part, being a Juillard [[sic]] student.

I had the carbon cleaned out of the car today at about 26,000 miles, and tonight with a load of ethyl gas the Colonel insisted on buying, and top down, she almost sailed up there - what a sweet motor when its in shape! A veritable flow of smooth, silent power that took us over Mayville hill at 50 per with the throttle a quarter open.

Some idea of today at the office may be gained from the fact I talked twice to Schenectady, once to Boston, West Lynn and New York, wired Roanoke, Sch'dy and Waterloo, and wrote several letters besides doing a lot on my M.C. report to boot. Dougall persuaded them to use a dynamotor which was a victory but they have a spare CDM 13 - that was a load off Lew Webb's mind. He was dizzy trying to figure how to use 1300 volt for control and lights. So now maybe we can make something out of this proposition as they want a complete new PCL control.

A. E. Smith made a funny remark yesterday to me. He said, "I thought you were going to move
