into Maurice's office." We were talking about the new office arrangement now under way. Jake is to move in with Shapter much to his disgust, and Art Packer is taking Jake's desk. Otherwise our office stays the same. Miss Giblin is to have Maurice's office, Walt Harris is moving to the third floor and Maurice is moving over there. "Whitey" is going to be alone in Waller's place and Henry Guy will be in Walroth's office and she goes in with Cash. I guess "Smitty" was joking but at first I wondered if there were rumors here about what Eddie Gunn told me. Maybe so - maybe not. A man could very nicely be shifted into Maurice's place later with Miss Giblin. However, I have stopped fussing about it - I think it is going to take time to develop.

Had a fairly peaceful day at the office today. Doc got back and I slid the Norfolk & Western speedometer job back to him, and then devoted the remainder of the day to the Waterloo job which Doc is too busy to take back again. Perhaps I am spending too much time on the thing but Dougall has cooperated so well and has asked for a good story, so I have tried to give it to him. It would be a miracle if we got the job as they have 5 [[circled w]] equipped engines now and like the HL control on them. So I even got Tritle onto it for arguments on our PCL over HL and cooked up a long letter to Dougall to give him all the ammunition possible, and it was hard digging as "Trite" himself practically admitted [[circled w]] had a better line of contactors than we for such a job! But I did my best and we shall see what happens.
