taking it easy and eating a lot. I think she should put on weight up here this time. I got some good movies today and want to get enough this year to fill out my last year's film to a real job that will sell Shanty Shane to our friends so next year we can get some of them up here.

It was a burning hot day today and after breakfast Bowers and I essayed to play some tennis. We batted them around awhile and then played a set which I won 6-4. But at the end of it, I was pretty well pooped and "Collis" was about ready to drop. His stomach felt funny anyhow. The result was, he spent most of the rest of the day in bed. I made a quick recovery, and pitched horseshoes with Taft and got in a couple of swimming sessions also. We went to Fairlee to shop to boot. This evening, they had a bridge tournament (3 tables) and I copped the booby prize, having played at the table with Mrs. Bowers and a Mr. and Mrs. Gack, an elderly couple from Mississippi. Mrs. Gack especially was a very serious addict, a big, burly, homely, rather affected woman. The climax came when Mrs. G. led when she shouldn't and they told me I could "name the lead." So I asked Mrs. Bowers to lead! I should have named the suit! After that, I could feel Mrs. Gack's condescension. But I didn't give a damn and Taft and I got a big laugh out of the whole thing afterward. Taft is certainly a prince of a guy! Always full of fun, ready for anything - Willie gets a tremendous kick out of him. And Mrs. Taft is a 100% too.
