couples which we watched appreciatively. Finally, as we were getting pretty much disgusted with our lack of success in finding some excitement, and incidentally a trifle dizzy from much ale and little food, the door opens and in pops our bellboy friend and a rather pretty girl. They are followed by 2 other couples but when the deadness of the Mayfair is discerned, they turned to leave. However, by that time we had grabbed the bellhop, "Ken," and were plying him with ale. The upshot was, he invited us to follow them over to Swanton where he would show us a live place.

The place was the Riviere and we were seated with Ken and party. Ken's girl was Nettie O.("Tootsie") La Longley. The other boy was "Spike" somebody, a Lucky Strike drummer and his girl was Sadie Quebec of Swanton. (The third couple faded out soon as I don't think they liked our joining the party.) Well, the ale drinking continued and we were enabled to dance with "Tootsie" and Sadie several times, and they were both beautiful to dance with as well as to regard. Sadie particularly was as smooth a dancer as I glided around with in years – she really was a delight and I think I outdid myself. There was plenty of life at the Riviere and the result at last was wholly satisfactory. "Tootsie" was bothered by new shoes which kept her from dancing more than otherwise and required her to remove her shoes from two very shapely feet whenever at the table but even that was a pleasure. We said farewell to them at the Riviere about 1 AM and returned to the Tavern for rest but only after Neal was
