Sunday, Sept. 17, 1939.
I did some heavy work today on cleaning up the cellar and preparing the way for a recreation room down there. Also I got busy on the editing of my Peninsula film and cleaned up the Shanty Shane film job too, so this evening we had a show that was really quite good. I want to get busy now on the children's movie as I have the titles, made with Richardson's B & H red block letters made on tablecloth, etc. backgrounds in color.

The news of today is that Russia has invaded Poland from the east to get her slice – just like a vulture preying on a prostrate person! It makes the picture more ominous than ever and Kaltenborn sounded very pessimistic tonight. It's the war news that gets Mother upset but she insists on reading and listening to all of it she possibly can.

I inquired of Rudy Krape today what he wanted me to do when I got cleaned up in a day or so and he informed me there would be a lot of Southern Pacific work to do for an Alco streamliner proposition – I inferred it would be much speed-timing. I hope I don't get the grilling and Rudy the fun on this Alco stuff but I strongly suspect that is what's coming. Rudy left today for the rest of the week and I believe the Southern Pacific will start when he returns.

As I worked today, my old headache began again and I am at a loss to explain it. It has me rather worried. I only seem to be afflicted
