Erie, Pa.,
Wednesday, Sept. 20, 1939.
Martignone, Hoddy, Larson, Tull and Seibel were here today and we "gave 'em the works" on the 80 ton jobs. They were here all day and we wound up over in the Refrigerator Dept. about 6 PM, getting away just in time to catch the 6:25 for Cleveland. They seemed well impressed with the engines and "Marti" thought they would buy them. This is the Cleveland crowd, who are pretty diesel-electric minded already, having two E-M 100 ton, 600HP units now. The price is $42,500 each, a real bargain. "Shap" thinks it's a crime to sell them at such a low figure - says we ought to buy them from Cummins and resell them at a higher price to someone later. This is a war created necessity. Steel production is jumping toward 100% capacity and the steel concerns are getting panicky about having enough facilities to handle the business.

My headache was present but less pronounced today. I have a theory about it now. I found my glasses are twisted so one lens is not in the same place as the other. I suspect that is the cause - eye strain. Over the weekend and when away, I don't wear my glasses very much and hence no headaches. At the office, I wear them all day and have headaches. Am going to leave them off for a day or so and observe results. I think my trouble will clear up and this weekend, I'll have the glasses adjusted properly.

This evening, heard Joe Louis and Bob Pastor go 11 rounds of a scheduled 20 round battle, when Joe got his opening and knocked out Pastor bingo!
