My experiment with my eyes was very successful today. I didn't wear my glasses and had scarcely a trace of a headache all day long. Besides that I read the new Time and Life this evening sans glasses and felt fine. So I am convinced that I have the answer.

Saw a notice today that C.F. Scott has retired as Transportation Manager at New York and Zimmer takes his place, as was lined up before. So Jim Smith's predictions to me in the Aschenbrodel about a year ago were entirely cockeyed. I guess old Jim doesn't like Zim or something - has a few grievances, either real or fanciful.

Spent the day getting costs on various changes and additions the Republic men wanted yesterday and also a cost for Waller on 10 more New Havens - 4 duplicates and 6 sans DC and trainheating plus freight gearing. In spite of the transfer of work all around this office, I find myself for the time being, working about as before - a little of everything - straight electric, industrial, railroad, etc.

Called Marti to give him prices this afternoon, and about 5 PM he called back to say they had found the locomotives 4" too high to clear 3 different entrances and Hoddy, Seibel and two others would be back here tomorrow to thrash that obstacle out. "Shap" was very much against such a low price today again, and called "Whitey" in New York to be sure it was all okay. "Whitey" informed him that it was - he had it all lined up with Letzinger. So Shap finally quieted down, although not convinced it was right. Perhaps he's correct.
