That indicates Whitey sees a V.P. coming back to transportation or maybe an Asst. V.P. under Shreve. Whitey said he had discussed the thing with Henry and that Henry independently had thought of me, and favored me for the commercial end. So I am to think this all over and make up my mind. I got no intimation that Whitey had anyone else in mind for Henry's job, and if I want it, I can have it. I know this all has to pass Shreve's approval but I think Whitey rates well enough there to put it across, and I think I can sell myself to Shreve if that is necessary.

So, after my rise to the heights on Eddie Gunn's story in June, and my fall to the depths a month ago, I now find that Eddie had something on the ball after all and the very thing I thought was an ambitious dream, a hopeless hope, now becomes nearer a reality and more authentic that anything I have known before concerning my advancement. I hope and I have good reason to believe the chances of this materializing are excellent this time. And it makes me very grateful and very anxious to carry on as never before.

Mr. Stout proved to be a very human person fond of drinking, dancing and dirty stories, and with a most active mind and a fine sense of humor.
