substitute the GT-534 (the generators we have in stock when Electro-Motive decided to build their own electrical equipment) for the GT545, and I convinced him. The Ford delegation will be here Monday with Charlie Sibert and if Doc fails to appear, it will fall to me to do the horsetrading, dickering, finageling, etc.

As usual I had little time to do any Southern Pacific today but I did get into figuring the train friction and found that to be a semi-research job. I asked Rudy for the weight and length of the Alco locomotive for this and he gave me figures but they were out of his head and I couldn't feel they were necessarily accurate. However they will do. So I am at last about ready to start speed-timing. Just when I'll get started, however, is still a question, with Ford activities in the offering. Rudy says he now has another job of the same nature on the Western Pacific to study. I wonder who'll do that. I can't do them both at the present rate.

I talked to Henry today about our "conference" Whitey proposed. He said he knew about it and he would let me know next week some evening we can get together and have a heart to heart. So that is under way.

Things are going along smoothly at home. Roger has been home from school for a few days with a little cold but is up and around and hard to keep quiet. Willie is actually gaining weight! Has retained the 5 pounds she put on at Shanty Shane and has added one or two more recently! It is a near miracle! We have had very warm summerlike weather but today it is cold and threatening — more like it should be now.
