Bruce and Miller of Alco here today and Rudy explained the Southern Pacific to Bruce in great detail as Whitey, Miller and I stood in the background. I think Whitey sees through that stuff - he's darned shrewd.

Henry Guy is in Chicago at the ARA Convention now so our rendezvous is delayed again.

Erie, Pa.,
Wednesday, Oct. 25, 1939.
I finished up my Southern Pacific study for the time being today and it will be submitted to Alco for their comments. Rudy says if its all right with me, he wants to handle the correspondence with Alco and I can handle it with the San Francisco Office. Also, later both of us will [[underlined]]probably[[/underlined]] go down and discuss the job with Alco. I don't take much offense at anything but that word "probably." After working two or three weeks on this eye straining, nerve racking job, "probably" I can go down to New York with Rudy, who has spent 10 minutes on the job [[underlined]]looking[[/underlined]] at the results, and discuss it with Alco. It's simply that Rudy is jealous of hell of his Alco customer. In view of impending change in my status in the Dept., this does not bother me too much. However, I'm simply going to lie low and watch developments in this affair. I feel sure Whitey meant for me to handle this job completely and I know also Alco asked that I handle it, so I fancy it wouldn't take much to get the routine straightened out. I don't want to "squeal" on Rudy and I'm simply going to watch developments - and with interest.

Henry Guy was back today from Chicago and I jacked him up on our rendezvous. He said he was holding off because there were changes being made
