Wired Jay Walker this morning we had three order for a 70 ton 400 HP and we ought to have the New York Central order in a few days so we could coordinate the two jobs and save money. I get a wire back from Bert Pero asking how much we can cut our price on account of this and get competitive. We already cut it $1000 last Wednesday to Jay so I phoned Bert. He knew nothing of the cut and Jay was in Rochester. Apparently Jay hadn't passed the cut on to anyone, either McDonald, or Bert, and they had persuaded the Central not to place the business until Monday so we could change our bid because of this California order we just got. I didn't intend this to be a handout to the Central but an urge to the New York Office to get busy, close the business and help us out. It is just as well I wired Jay - otherwise the business might have been closed tomorrow and we might have lost it because our cut wouldn't have got to the Central.
