Erie, Pa., Friday, Oct. 27, 1939.
"Whitey" called me in this morning to ask me to collaborate with St. Lawrence on all this government business that is in the air on account of the war. It should be a very interesting assignment but I wondered if it meant again I was to be disappointed and the other program had been changed. I asked Whitey and he assured me nothing had been changed and I should continue my investigation with Henry - it was simply that he wanted someone right away on this government business and the other is less urgent and will follow. So after that I felt better - in fact I felt I have a most important and fascinating assignment to fill in until the other thing is active and perhaps even after the other shift is made. It is supposed to be a part time job for the present, filling in with the diesel-electric work. So all looks even better than ever. Had a short session with St. L. & Whitey today.

Ernie Bloss and Neil Donovan were here all day. Henry Guy took us to luncheon at the Erie Club, a jolly affair with two scotch and sodas to give it a boost. Apparently the fact the demonstrator will be delayed a couple of months, isn't bothering either the B&M or Neil too much, which relieved my mind. We put in a hilarious session at the City Club and dinner at the Lawrence and they just did make the train.

Jake got back today from the Short Line Convention and reported he had sold two 80 ton 500HP jobs to the Northeast Oklahoma to boot. I congratulated him on his Panama job. I feel he deserves a lot of credit on that job. Jake, in spite of all his faults, is a good, tenacious salesman and I think he's okay.
