Heard today we got, or rather Alco got one 660 HP from the B&M, some more fruit of the survey Tom and I made last December. This makes 3 of a proposed 6 and Electo-Motive have none yet.

The New York Central requisition didn't arrive but Zip phoned Whitey all was okay and we could issue an MO if we wished. So that's in the bag. Jake congratulated me on it today. I thanked him but told him I didn't believe anything until I saw the requisition.

Perk reported the disquieting news that Pullman has turned down our eddy-current brake job cold - too much money and thanks for our kindly efforts. That makes the long wheeze in our braking paper a trifle empty but still legitimate.

Had a pleasant evening with the Downies tonight. Mother going too and apparently enjoying it.

Woke up this morning and got thinking about the New York Central job. Whitey and I wondered why Zip referred to our quotation of $38,375 when it was $38,235. Suddenly in bed it dawned on me. Our extra for weight transfer compensation was $140 and they were taking that. I began to think it over and worry about the capacity of the GE1204 for the increased duty but decided that on 35000 lb. per axle, 25 MPH gearing and weight shift compensation was no worse than 46000 lb. and 22 MPH on the 23 ton doodle bug with no compensation. As a matter of fact, now that I think of it, the doodle bug has the equivalent of weight shift compensation by having the two axles tied together with a chain. But then I really began
