Today Whitey passed off the Thorpe incident with about one sentence - the order was held up in the New York Service Bldg. for two weeks. No remarks about Thorpe being sore at my wire - nothing. A good lesson for me not to worry senselessly about little things like that. Whitey seemed pleased that I had not quoted Firestone on the forgings, wants me to get from Walter Hedley all the ACF quotations he can pry out of ACF including arm or plate. Had no chance today to discuss with Whitey my talk with Henry.

Erie, Pa., Saturday, Nov. 18, '39.
I finally got started today on covering the old screen with match box covers and was quite intrigued with the results. I spent 3 or 4 hours on it in the cellar and Mother gave me the dickens for "avoiding" her so I had to call off operations.

This evening we went up to the Harrises for some bridge with Walt and Ros and we had a very pleasant session. I get along remarkably well with Walter, can talk intelligently with him about our work and enjoy doing it. Walter, as Asst. to Emmet in charge of Erie Works engineering, is familiar with the "big shots" and if I can deal efficiently with him, it is a good indicator I can do the same with other key men in the Company. I am confident I can handle a bigger job and with a little experience in such a job, I can function efficiently and well. Here's hoping and praying I can come through and make good and land where my hopes are [[aiming?]] me.
