Another busy day at the office. Republic is having trouble with the locomotives - nothing serious but annoying. I may take a run over there the latter part of the week and also see Col. Blackmore on some of the ordnance work.

Mother was different when I got home tonight and while I was down cellar working on my matchbox cover screen, she came down and told me how sorry she was, how nervous and would I forgive her. So I hope things will go better for a while again.

Had a session in Walt Harris' office this morning on the New York Central and Whitey was present. When he heard Cummmins had renegged on their agreement here last week, he dismissed all counter proposals we were cooking up and called Letzinger, who later advised there had been a "misunderstanding" - they had not renegged. Whitey talked a little wild I thought - cancelling the order, "Throw it in Cummins lap," etc, etc. Sometimes, I don't know just what to think of him.

Had a big session in St. L's office this afternoon on the 5"/38 mount tools and the boys don't seem to be progressing very fast. Seamy faced Bert Hall was there - the first time I ever sat in conference with him, and I took a real liking to his quiet, patient, calm way of doing business. It was principally educational to me and I got considerable out of it. St. L. disturbed me by saying he doesn't think we can bid on the recoil mechanism educational orders, because of a bottleneck in our tool dept.
