We had our session with Bill Hamilton and to my surprise, he accepted most of the scheme we proposed except he wants generator field control on the lower notches instead of throttle control. So I take that back to Erie for a thorough going over. It was a very amiable conference - somehow I find Bill far more receptive and less belligerent than of yore. It is a pleasure to do business with him - at least it has been so far on this job.

At 5 PM, after about a dozen phone calls scattered throughout the day with Collis Bowers and Commodore Taft, Jay and I met Mr. and Mrs. Taft and Collis at the Commodore and had cocktails. Mrs. Bowers is ill - running a mysterious temperature - and he is rather worried about her and left for home about 5:30. Jay and I and Mr. & Mrs. Taft had dinner together at Boni's and stayed there until 9:30 chinning - a swell time with "Moms and Pops" in rare humor. I enjoyed the reunion immensely. It appears I am the connecting link between these New York Shanty Shaners. The only time the Champ had seen Bowers since we were in Vermont was once when he ran into him accidentally in a bar. The Tafts have seen nothing of the Atwells - "Moms" reports the Atwells act very indifferent in New York, friendly as they were at Shanty Shane. "Moms" seemed to take quite a fancy to Jay and he enjoyed the evening too. I took the 11:40 for Erie after Jay and I had taken in the Grand Central movie, and the Tafts had left for Flushing and the twins.

Ken Wolf got me a Lionel train set for Rog at 33 1/3% off, but it was too heavy to carry so he will have it expressed to me.
