It was raining hard this morning and I saw no point in going down and bothering Amble again - he told me yesterday he hadn't had time yet to read his Saturday's mail - also the Army inspector was in Berwick today. So I phoned Amble instead and also phoned Stevens. I had a pleasant chat with Amble but was told Stevens was "not in" when I gave my name - wondered if it meant anything - trust not - know of no reason why he should cold shoulder me - our evening together was very pleasant. Well, I thought, what the hell anyway! I caught the 10:21 AM bus for Wilkes-Barre, and after a long day of travel arrived home at 12:30 AM, tired and glad to call this asinine trip a day. Flirted around with the idea of taking a plane home from Wilkes-Barre and later from Buffalo, but the weather was terrible and at Buffalo I found the first snow storm of the season.

Found the B&M demonstrator a mess with Ernie Bloss dickering with Baldwin because we are dallying so and Tom Mulvey promising to ship Jan 12th - Lord knows how. Had a session with Glenn Thompson of N.Y. Air and Banell; found we have a 20/1 lever ratio, enough to make any railroad man blanche but finally got Neal Donovan to get Ernie to agree to let it go after I gave a potent story to Neal on 3 versus 1 shift service, light weight per axle, etc. all talking fast. These little locomotives right now are pretty weak sisters especially on the side rods which break themselves or the axles pretty regularly.
