and ambulance and I told Waid if I could do anything to call on me. The cop got the whole story and I don't believe Waid will have any trouble collecting although the d- fool driver had no insurance. However he agreed to pay and appeared to have something. Of course, he got off without a scratch and his car was damaged much less than Waid's. I felt terribly sorry for Waid - just before X-mas!

Rog complained tonight of a sore throat just as Bab is nicely recovering from hers!

Erie, Pa.,
Sunday, Dec.24, '39.
The Colonel arrived on the "Forest Limited" as he always calls it, and he injected the usual jollity & holiday spirit he always does when he comes to town - I think he even cheered Mother up a lot. Dr. Gannon said Rog had a throat much worse than Bab's - the same complaint - and so he goes to bed for X-mas! The extra X-mas tree turned out to be a blessing in disguise because it allowed us to put a tree in Roger's room too and tickled him to pieces, taking off much of the curse of a bedded Christmas. He takes it all very philosophically - is a marvellous patient - no trouble at all. He just lolls back and enjoys life as usual - quieter but nevertheless content and pleasant. His throat may be worse than Bab's but he seems to feel better than she did, thank heaven. Bab is now up and dressed and completely recovered. We trimmed trees and generally prepared for tomorrow, having more time than usual when X-mas is on a day after a working day - it makes it nice. The 3 speed bridge lamp I got for Wil is crooked - much to my disgust.
