John Halliday, the villianous English movie actor, and I began to wonder what the bill might be tomorrow when I settle up.

After Dr. Morgan's treatment, I could hardly talk, let alone swallow, and I was pretty dumb all the rest of the day. Blair Dark, St.L. & I had lunch together and then St. Li and I went to the Naval Gun Factory where we interviewed Capt. Ducey, the big boss, Cap't Brown, and Comm. Spanagel. Darcy in particular I found a character. We encountered him down in the large production office (having missed our date with him at 1:30 because he was tied up with Secy'. Edison); he was lounging in a corner telling with one of his subordinates, his foot on a desk. His clothes were rare--brown sport coat with sport pants not matching, sport sweater, loud tie, woolen sport socks, old brown shoes--and all this on a man in the 50's, red faced, bullet headed, close cropped gray hair, spectacles, twinkling eyes that would give me a lightning wink as he was giving St. L. hell apparently in all earnestness, cursing and complaining at a great rate about how he'd be god damned if he was "going to teach the whole G E Co how to do their job."

Brown and Spanagel seemed more the gentlemanly type although I imagine both of them are capable of raining plenty of hell if and when necessary or desirable. They both have a "Navy look"--brown rather handsome--Spanagel somewhat hard bitten and as though he'd been through plenty of wills. I would guess all of them are fine men. Darcy, according to St. L. is "stewed most of the time". I saw no evidence
