Thursday, Jan. 18, 1940.

Busy day at the office during which I got in some good [[licks?]] in preparation for my Sch'dy talks next week. Presided at a cozy little AIEE dinner meeting this evening at Villa Maria - 20 present - and we had movies afterward, the [[Cuil?]] spot, a Bethlehem Steel picture showing the building of the Golden Gate Bridge. As a locomotive engineer, it made me feel pretty puny. What a colossal job! Was much impressed with the atmosphere of the Villa - very lovely and refined and reverent. I could sense that something you feel in Catholic places and I can see why a Catholic school would be a good place to send a girl. Felt much less nervous presiding tonight and hope it extends over into next week. After the first minute or so, there's nothing to it. Went to the Griswold Club later too late to hear much of the speech but in time for a rollicking sound hour of singing and poker that got me home at 12:15 AM

Friday, Jan. 19. '40.

It was hovering around 10[[degree sign]] below zero this morning but turned out a sunny, old time, winter day. Was up to my neck in work all day long but managed to stand the gaff.  Had a session with Whitey in which he told how he had talked to Rod Herod, V.P. of I.G.E. regarding the British job and suggested Herod split the profit with us. Herod "made a fool of himself" ie - refused - and Whitey said he could go to hell. So Whitey says any bid we put in on IGE ordnance should be plenty high as we bill them our estimate unless we overrun, when we bill our cost. Whitey said also that Becker
