He doesn't know what's wrong and is anxious to get back to college and is looking forward to Shanty Shane next summer. It cast a shadow over us. George is such a splendid boy--why, why?
Tonight we saw "Gone With the Wind" - a wonderful picture, filled with the things that grip one's heart with sadness and with beauty and with hope and regret. Done in magnificent color, it is probably one of the greatest movies ever made all in all. Although to me, Vivien Leigh left something to be wanted in the part of Scarlett - brilliant in places, in other she seemed to me like an amateur. It was not a thoroughly polished performance. To me, Olivia de Havilland was perfect as Melanie and for acting put Leigh in the shade. Gable and Leslie Howard were splendid as one would expect. The one who almost stole the show was Hattie McDaniell as the old colored mammy. A great picture but I think I would rather see "Dark Victory" a second time. Nothing has ever seized me by the throat like that one--it was so terrific as to be almost unbearable.

Got up late after last night's dissipation and I had time for a little shopping before noon. Tried to get the census questions for mother but the Census Bureau had no dope on it yet, being engrossed now in the industrial census. The population census not to start until April 1. Also did some checking in my box at the bank and find if I can keep my bank balance even from year to year, we are saving nearly $1000 per year and at the end of this year will be worth about $10,000 counting the Louisville property at $3000.
