I've had to give all that up much as I like it too." So evidently Whitey's mind hasn't changed about me in spite of my rating by the "man at your elbow", etc. It gave me a great pick-up, one I needed. Now my greatest problem is to get this ordnance stuff in hand and it is going to require an awful lot of tact as well as hard work to "come thorough" after I do get it. The odd thing to me is why somebody with some authority doesn't simply put the work where it belongs instead of fooling around, cajoling, passing the buck. If they want St.L. out of it, why don't they tell him so and have him get out. I fail ^[[insertion]] to see [[/insertion]] why it should be so difficult. It is no reflection on him - he has done a fine job and everyone likes him and admires the job he has done. But if he is now needed on other work, why don't they simply line things up. It is a tough assignment for me and one likely to make me about as popular as a male at a lawn party. However, the greater the credit if I can do it. And it is mighty important that I do do it successfully.

Came home to find poor Babbie semi-laid up because she had been hit flush in the eye with a snowball on the way home from school - assailant unknown. It hurt her so and looked so badly. Willie took her down to Dr. Delaney this evening, and he said it wasn't serious - treated it and gave us salve to apply periodically. So I trust she will be all right. I felt so sorry for her and so mad at the kid who did it. It happened way down near Gridley High on 8th so I guess it was no one whom we know. Her teeth are responding well to straightening according to Dr. Arrowsmith which is cheering, although she still has a year and a half to go.
