even more than the first time. Since I saw it before, Vivien Leigh got the Academy Award for her Scarlett and I realized perhaps I hadn't given her credit, so I was more attentive to her this time, and appreciated what a marvellous job she did. And the whole thing was doubly good because I knew it had taken an effort to do the right thing and something fine really had been accomplished, I believe, it will always turn out that way - if one does something good, giving up something tempting, there will be ample compensation in one way or another.

Had a short session with DeRose this morning, checking up on the dope he gave me last year to see if it was all right or not. In the freight house, he gave the same first impression he gave me last year - no one would suspect he is an ex-pal of Cal Coolidge. But this time, we left him in the freight house, and there was no chance to hear him tell his past. I regret we wouldn't contact him last night as I believe an evening with him over the flowing bowl would bring forth many an interesting anecdote of Northhampton society. Maybe someday, if we can get Tarzan, Jr. up there or a larger unit maybe, we can have such a session with him.

We went to Springfield and found Dunfee of Gilbert and Barker was not available today, so we went up to the Chapman Valve at Indian Orchard to learn it was too late for a 23 ton - they had just spent $2500 to repair their steam locomotive. It looked to me as though someone had slipped on our part and Neil was inclined to blame Muzzey.
