So we had dinner at the Union News counter in South Station where I had a couple of beers with dinner, and incidentally had my first taste of bock beer - not bad - and then to the office where I compared almost single handed - and gladly - a long letter to Paton that sounded pretty good. Neil was willing and we consulted back and forth, but I wrote the whole thing longhand for Mrs. Knowles to copy tomorrow. We quit about 10:30 PM and Neil dropped me at the hotel. A fairly satisfactory day.

Spent most of the morning at the office. Tried to get Roy to go to the session at Woodsville but he said he was going to take Marian to the Flower Show tonight - had been home two nights in the last six weeks! Roy said he had had luncheon yesterday with Larry Rich and on Jimmy Davenport and steam seemed recommended for the Fitchburg. Roy wants me to get Whitey to push Alco into a diesel study, which the B&M wants.

Neil and I hopped off for Woodsville about 11AM in the Plymouth and a rain storm, lunching at Alma's at Manchester. After lunch, Neil gave me the wheel and soon we were plowing through snow and slush six inches to a foot deep - think we had 50 miles if it then the road got better but a young blizzard started up. However, I stuck to it and we rolled into Woodsville about 4:45 PM. Found Tarzan Jr. down at the engine house and we noted also some very ominous looking grades and long too which foretold no good.
