A day at home. This afternoon, Charlie and Barbara brought Chickie over to see Rog's electric train, now installed on the ping pong table in the basement, and Chickie was so fascinated they couldn't get him away until 6 PM. Charlie said he was under the impression Walt Scarborough's new job was one that would last only 6 months and Walt was pleased to have it and have an opportunity to get out on the road and sell and use his initiative. Still I wonder what it's all about.

Monday, Mar. 28, '40.

It took me all morning to read my mail and get organized. After lunch, Rudy and I went in to see Whitey and I told the Fitchburg main line diesel story, and I think I got it across. At any rate Whitey will take it up with Alco in New York tomorrow. I learned the Brazilian job has all but fallen through, although there still is a chance we may get the mounts. I was rather afraid Whitey would take me to task for staying away so long but he didn't - in fact, he almost urged me to go back to Boston whenever necessary to push this job through to a successful conclusion. Not long after that, I got a wire from Roy saying J.W. Smith would be in Woodsville Wednesday to see Tarzan Jr. and he felt the time was ripe to start intensive campaigning. Also Perry Egbert will be in Boston Friday to discuss Fitchburg, 1000 HP demonstrator, etc. So I'm to be in Boston Wednesday morning. Hope this trip will start a successful wind-up to this campaign. Rog was almost beside himself today - he got 5A's, 1 B+ and 1 B on his report. Boor Babbie, who is used
