latest low down on the B&M but we missed him, so saw Dave Reid instead. Dave was apparently interested to give us all the good advice in his power on how to get rid of Tarzan Jr. to the Arsenal - was [[underlined]] very [[/underlined]] decent about it. I find myself liking him more and more. Then we asked him if Ernie Bloss could come to Erie. Dave said "no" - Ernie was too busy. He seemed to think we wanted Ernie to help us design the locomotive, and we soon disabused him of that idea. Then Dave said he had definitely recommended cast steel trucks to J.W. We asked why. He came back with a question at Roy, "Why do you think the I.C.C. has made us scrap all our arch bar trucks?" It was like the dawn breaking! I saw that Dave [[underlined]] didn't know what we meant by a fabricated truck [[/underlined]] and Ernie Bloss either didn't know himself or had never properly informed his boss! It didn't take long to get a good sizeable wedge in then for our construction and we promised to send Dave full details. He agreed to keep his mind open and to go over to South Station and look at a New Haven 0901-0910 truck soon. Then we got in a swell plug for the GE733 motor - the gearbox description reminded Dave how Tarzan had pulled him out of a serious hole on a booster gearing problem and he said G.E. made the best gearing in the country! We left feeling we had really accomplished something for our cause.

This was the night of the New England Transit Club Annual Banquet. As we left the B&M, Roy suddenly recalled that Tuesday night, Jack Thulwall, in his cups, had invited Helen and Edna up to the G.E. room at the Statler tonight!
