This evening I labored in the yard under Willie's supervision planting some forsythia bushes in the front yard. It was in the 50's and it felt great to be outdoors exercising again without a ton of overcoat, galoshes, etc. on.

Yes, this was a big day! I want to follow it up carefully so there are no slips and all pans out as it seems to be shaping up. And I want to swing the B&M job before I release the New England work to someone else. Get 5 on the B&M or even more and put Tarzan Jr. in a permanent home at Watertown Arsenal. Then I can feel the New England Campaign of 1939-1940 was a success.

A day of "mopping up" at the office - clearing my desk, cleaning up odd jobs. Spent some time with Ken Wolf - apparently we ordered the wrong axles for the N.Y.C. job - to our specs. instead of theirs. Am trying to get Jay Walker to bring Phil Hatch up here this week or next to go over the 44 ton locomotive situation for the New Haven. The night we had our outing in Boston, Phil told Roy he wanted him to be here in Erie when he came out, so I reminded Jay of it, and for once Jay sounded just a bit annoyed - said Phil must have been cockeyed and it just couldn't be done. It almost sounded as if Jay was just a little tiny bit jealous. After all, such a procedure would be very unorthodox and I don't know as I blame Jay particularly. I'd probably feel the same way myself.

Had the worst AIEE meeting of the year tonight - "Copper and Its Alloys" by W.S. Girvin, Asst.
