Metallurgist of American Brass Co. at Waterbury. He was a very nice chap to meet and converse with - an ex-world war aviator - but he was a lousy speaker - read his whole paper and couldn't even read very smoothly. His subject was dry as hell - way over my head - poorly explained. There were 40 people there and I was desperately afraid I would go to sleep during the talk, which would have been very embarassing as I was the chairman of the session. Well, we can't make a bullseye every time.

Another day of "mopping up" and catching up at the office. At this rate, I'll be able to start soon on the collaboration and education with Henry Guy and Cash. Lunched with Perk at Loummer's which is now run by the ex-YMCA outfit, Loummer again having temporarily retired. The food was good but somehow it wasn't the same as when Loummer ran it. No word from Roy on B & M and I am getting fidgetty again to get into the fray over there. But it doesn't look as though I'd be leaving town this week, the first week in seven I haven't been out of town at all! Apparently York Safe & Lock was low bidder again on the 50-caliber Navy machine gun mounts- we were killed again by high tools! St.L was optimistic as usual and thought we could get it but I think Blair is right - you bid low or you don't get it - it was that way before and I think it will be again. St.L and I will go to Washington for a couple of days in a week or two. just to get the up-to-date dope on all this prospective govt. business.
