Today I got pretty well caught up at the office and next week believe I can start on my work with Henry and Cash. Still no word from Roy and I'm on pins and needles. Altogether this was a rather uninteresting day. Tonight I spent whole evening reading the new "Time" and "Life" magazines - a real treat for me lately. Today we had our first "locomotive luncheon" sponsored by Maurice Guyues  - a get together for the locomotive gang to acquaint each other with what's going on - it seems like a good idea. The U.P. is still far from finished as the 4 year mark approaches! The New Haven freight job is postponed as Gibbs & Hill study extension to Boston. Things are underway to study the 6000 HP coal fired steam electric in collaboration with a committee representing the coal roads - a slow but sane way of doing it thanks to "Whitney".

Did some research on brake lever ratio, braking power, cylinder sizes, etc. on the 44 ton de luxe today and got a good conception of what its all about. Moreover, I brought out Cain's theory on why we overcompensate for rotational energy of motors which may lead us to a satisfactory solution of this problem - something that will be satisfactory to the B&M as well as others. I felt, as I always do when I dig into something hard, that I had done something worthwhile. I felt satisfied.

Had a tremendous argument with Frank Guillet this afternoon on a change sheet for the New York Central. I wanted him to allow a reduction for a change from reverser to contactor reversing and he didn't want
