to. We ended the argument with Frank beginning to weaken but it was rather exasperating. At least we ended it kidding each other which is an accomplishment with Frank particularly when the discussion is as heated as this was. It looks a though we're in the doghouse on the New York Central axles too - made to our Spec. instead of theirs because Lee Clarke pulled a bull and ordered them the wrong way! The development on the job is about $12000 in the Loco. Div. against an estimate of $4500 - Kjolseth spent more on the truck alone than $4500! When I quoted I thought Spike would design it - then they turned it over to the other bunch with the usual result.

A.C.& F. Fitzgerald here today and Walt Hedley was supposed to be with him. Walt phoned from the [[underlined]] Hotel Stuyversant [[/underlined]] in Buffalo this morning to say he couldn't make it - had a [[underlined]] heavy conference [[/underlined]] on he simply couldn't get away from. Rudy and I thought we knew the nature of the conference. Rudy told me also that Walt was broke last week and Rudy lent him $167 - so far all he has had in payment was a check that bounced and Walter is avoiding him. It appears to me Walter is riding again toward a hard fall. He can't keep this up indefinitely.

Today is Patriot's Day in Boston so there was no word again from Roy. It appears now Jay will bring Phil Hatch out here next week.

Coming home tonight Bird Hawk was driving his old Dodge in a way I considered actually reckless. And sure enough he shot up to a light at 6th and Parade too fast - it turned red when he was 50 ft from the corner but he went through.
