back down there, telling them to check out tomorrow morning and leave their bags in their rooms, all because Whitey forgot to announce it as he said he would. Lynch and I clicked pretty well on the thing; I note Wayne is a great boy to play up to the "big shots" -  I think I should be more so for my own good but perhaps I get across just as well in the long run in my quieter, less agressive way.

"Whitey" had his Application Engineering session for the Sales Committee this morning and I was the guy who saw to it the speakers were ushered into the room at the proper time. I felt like an executioner leading the doomed men down their last corridor. I all but gave them absolution. But it was a nice session and I think it went over well. We all had luncheon together. I sat next to John Anderson, who seems like a very good egg - and so southern. An hour to finish Whitey's program after lunch and just at the conclusion, Shreve announced he had just received word we were low bidders on the 75 mm howitzer job. That set me up considerably - we should get the full quantity of 326 or around $800,000 order.

The inspection trip, for which Lynch, Rudy Krape, Earl Kearns and I were the "guides", and St.L. was invited as a special guide on account of the armament work in restricted areas, went smoothly through Bldg 26 and part way thru the lower floor of Bldg. 10; then suddenly a crowd was missing. St.L. had cut off up into the gallery with half a dozen to show them the projectile hoist for the 5"/38 caliber
