A wire from Donovan asking for a Photostat of the Hercules letter saying their power is 165 HP and not 193 HP - for use at a meeting Friday. Fred Buchlipitt is still "confused" as to Hercules horsepower. How I hope they roll in that job soon, with the 75 mm job it would make over a million dollars of business for us in a couple of weeks. The Mission Pacific just offered us two Hercules 44 towers at $29200 with HM829 motors and we are in quandary what to do - it means a complete new design of mechanical. The Mo. Pac has given one each to Davenport, Whitecomb and Porter. We've got to get Caterpillar on the B&M

Oscar Gilcrest told us a good story about old Edward G. Budd, a tough egg with his organization. Budd was walking thru his car shop and saw a new subway train being completed. He turned to the Supt. and asked, "When are you going to ship that?" The Supt. replied, "Why, in about two weeks." Mr. Budd pointed at him and said two words only - "You're fired! And he was! He was a good man and it took several weeks of arguing with Mr. Budd before his management could get him back on the payroll again.

This is Memorial Day, and a critical day in history with the British and part of the French army caught in a trap in the Belgium and north France so desperately that they are all but completely lost. They say it is a veritable hell on earth where they are - no one has any conception of what is going on there.
