After balling me out on the ordnance stuff, Whitey invited me to the weekly departmental meeting in Rudy's place (he's away) and gave me an assignment with Dixie Waller for the next meeting, apparently lining up for me to start attending these sessions.

We got an order for two 44 ton Caterpillars for Arkansas Valley today and one Nevada Consolidated 750 volt 90 ton electric. So I had to shove the B&M shipment ahead two weeks. A big questionnaire arrived from B&M today and Roy is trying to line up a conference this week or next to wind up the job.

Poor old Gus Marx, after weathering his operation okay, had a relapse and I heard he was taking oxygen today -not so good.

Every evening I spend working around the place -- tonight continued installing flagstones back of the living room for a little terrace. Had the top down today - a gorgeous sunny day - and took the kids for a ride this evening, as well as Henry guy and Gordon McDonald uptown to lunch.  Mother is smoothed over when I told her Willie isn't going to Louisville.

We had one session with Emmet and St. L. today - luncheon - Whitey, I and they - followed by a session in Emmet's office and Whitey never even mentioned a word of criticism of them and naturally I didn't broach the subject as long as he didn't. But I decided he talks louder than he acts sometimes - I guess we all do. They had a glowing tale of $18,000,000 of 5/38 business in the next three years
