on a negotiated contract - typical particularly of St. L. at his glowingest - but I think this time it may transpire although I must say it sounds almost too good to be true. They had a story too of about 650 75mm howitzers over a couple of years! Whitey and I got their story and will carry on from here - and I hope I can get my hands on the job now although Whitey is going to be in Schndy Thursday himself to start things - I might meet him there if Roy schedules a B&M meeting Friday in Boston.

This morning after our usual session of reading the mail, Whitey let me go and retained Henry and Cash for further talk. I was a bit worried as to whether it concerned me unfavorably but finally told myself I had crossed many bridges in the past only to have to recross them and like as not this was another case. From developments later in the day, I decided I had had another false alarm as usual. I've also decided I must be prepared to take criticism gracefully occasionally. I can go far now but the all important step now is to consummate this move into Henry's shoes when he leaves and I can't afford to tangle with Whitey - as a matter of fact, he may be taking a crack at me once in a while just to see how I can take it - he's that shrewd.
