new little stewarddess trying to ease my ears, and we were alighting at Erie at 10:15 PM. Mother was amazed to see me (Willie expected it but didn't let on) and she took it much more gracefully than I expected, a relief.

Erie, Pa.,
Sunday, June 9, 1940.
Bab and Rog both have colds and Dr. Gannon reported them all over town from the weather, so changeable. I spent the day fixing up the yard and acquired a fine sunburn - almost too much. My ears gradually returned to normal during the day and the cold is going too but slowly as summer colds usually do, I took Mother with me when I drove out to the airport to meet Roy Goggin this evening but his plane was about an hour late so we returned without waiting. I would have got a great kick out of having her see one of the big Flagships come in and go out - will have to take her out to see it sometime.

En route to
Washington
Monday, June 10, '40
A flock of GE district men flocked into town today prior to the opening of the Alco meeting here tomorrow and I took Roy and Jay from the hotel to the office this morning. But having to leave for Washington tonight made it impossible for we to attend the sessions much, having to get the B&M going in good shape and clean up things in general before decamping on the "puddlejumper".
