Had a letter from Commodore Taft saying they are not going to Shanty Shane this year, having decided to go to Basin Harbor on Lake Champlain because they are putting Peg in a camp over near there. That goes a long way toward deciding us against Shanty Shane - it wouldn't seem like the same place without the Tafts there.

Whitey got back today and we had a session with Emmet and St.L This afternoon from which Whitey emerged disgusted and convinced at last it is a job to hold them in line. He admitted to me [[underlined]] he [[/underlined]] couldn't control them which made me feel better because he has berated me over not being able to. From the way he talks he is going to really do something now about this unorthodox way of doing business. As I see it, it is absolutely essential if we all are to escape the doghouse in the eyes of Sch'dy and Washington and the Navy Dept. It all is so silly when one realizes we have a well established arrangement for handling the Navy. I hope order will come out of chaos, and I hope Whitey now sees my point - the difficulty of controlling the situation.
