has never seemed quite the same to me since I turned him down cold on his invitation to come to Boston and join his organization and I look forward to the day when I can tell him why.

We all had the usual scotch and soda in the Tavern after work and had dinner at the Beachcombers, a South Sea night club that was run by Chinese but not so bad. I was in bed at 11 PM.

France capitulated and the hostilities ceased today - the French fleet goes to Italy and Germany, which is very grave, but no one yet knows if the fleet actually will surrender so anything on that at this stage seem premature.

Boston, Mass.
Tuesday, June 25, 1940.
As there was nothing at the Convention I was obliged to attend today, Connie and I made some calls. We touched Ernie Bloss first and he thanked me warmly and sincerely for the slide rule - told us Whitcomb guaranteed the Hercules engine for 193HP at "sea level barometer and 60°F." I guess Ernie knows they are hedging and he said they were going to have to prove their whole story - so apparently that's the holdup.

We then proceeded to Billerica Skrops for a brief stop and on to North Chelmsford (pronounced CHEMSFORD) and the Fletcher Granite Co. who have a big quarry and a G - 10. Mr. Billson, the Supt. talked poor-mouth and was pretty reticent until we showed some interest in his quarry operation and then he opened up, took us out to the pit and showed us the works, all enthusiasm. The railroad runs right down to the bottom of the quarry, quite a nice piece of civil engineering, circling around the outside to get down.
