throat was coming fine and I wouldnt have to come in any more- could eat anything again. Last night I slept all night with no wake-ups for aspergum chewing to calm my throat. So the battle's about over and I am vastly relieved to have the job done. Am hoping for a big improvement next winter.

The news of the 5"/38 opening date being put back to Aug 7th was a bombshell as for a vacation goes because we are due at Basin Harbor August 6th. "Whitey" glibly said I'd have to put off the vacation and I was feeling low. But I got the idea I could drive to Schdy and be there on Monday. the 5th go over the job with Cliff and the DCC and go on from there to Basin Harbor - and if it could be done that way, it would help pay for the vacation trip. Whitey said it was OK by him - just as long as I followed the job. So I'm hoping. I'd hate to cancel that reservation at Basin Harbor at this late date - it wouldn't be right.

Walt Harris called up today and gave me a long story on why he felt his whole gang should go to Aberdeen - he sounded quite conciliatory after his remarks of yesterday, and I knew I had scored a point in standing up to him - in being "tough" as Whitey says. We made arrangements with Hicklin at Baltimore to get the boys to Aberdeen and he said there was no use of their being there before 10 AM. Pritchard wanted to be there about 7 AM and we had to quiet him down on that.

This morning at our usual 8:30 AM conference, Whitey discussed personnel at some length. Points of interest.
