After a very bad pregnancy, Rosalind Harris bore a fine 9 lb. baby girl today and all seems to be going well. Am certainly glad that turned out well for it was fraught with dangerous possibilities. It will be nice to have "Ros" back in circulation again too.

Wolfe called me this morning to say Devins at Auburn wired in there's a bad vibration on one of the New York Central's engines and to send someone up. So Barrell is going. I can't see how it could be anything inherently wrong so am not worrying too much about it! Maybe they let the intermediate speed slide up near the critical. I don't want any slips on that job - I'm counting on several more and they are one point on my program for this year.

Had my first 1940 swim today and I sure enjoyed it. It was scorching hot and the water felt marvellous - and I acquired a swell burn. Its hard to beat lying out on the hot beach in nothing but a pair of trunks letting the sun singe you, romping into the cool blue lake at will.

This is the colonel's 66th birthday and we went to the Hofbrau this evening to celebrate. The place was jammed - there appear to be no anti-Hofbrau feeling because of Nazi prejudice. It was a good show - as good as ever - but somehow it didn't seem to click with me quite like it used to. I was physically tired from the strenuously conducted swimming session and when midnight came, was glad to go home. I am recovering fast but I guess my strength is still below par.
