Gouldy has to go back to Washington on the tank tonight - wanted me to to go - but I declined. The 5"/38 job is hot and I want to stick close. I think I'm getting that job in hand at last.

Did some simonizing on the car tonight with Bab & Rog assisting. I got a terrific sunburn last weekend at the beach and am suffering from it now - kept me awake until 2AM last night - is better this evening but awfully itchy. I got up and took a bath at 1:30 AM last night and powdered up, finally getting to sleep. Hope tonight is better. I always get over-anxious on the sun bathing and this happens.

Had a nice talk with Roy this morning and learned he got $32,900 each for the B&M job, freight allowed to Mechanicville - on a cut of about $700 on the whole contract. So that was pretty good and I felt much happier about that phase of it than when Whitey told me he cut $600 per loco. Roy felt the Maine Central and Portland Terminal units would come almost "automatically" and by Oct. 1st. So there's a hurdle taken and I can check another point off my 1940 "objective list."

Latest development on the 5"/38 job is that an Addenda is coming out calling for completely itemized list of additional plant equipment required which is to handled on a supplemental contract on the basis of 50% amortization on this contract or 100% with the Gov't acquiring title to the tools. Neither alternative is very acceptable to us and I don't know where we will get off on that. Clark says also that

Transcription Notes:
"Simonizing" popular car wax of the period. Bab and Rog, not Bob and Roy. mandc: according to my history I submitted this for review 2/1/18, and it is presented to me for review? I have noticed this on several other pages in this series. Normally when I load a page that I have transcribed or reviewed there is a "thank you" message letting me know I have already visited.
