So it looks like we're in line for a big 5"/38 order if we'll play ball - but will we under the conditions we understand exist as to title to equipment, etc.? Personally I think we'll come out all right in the end if we go along on a 50% amortization basis because it appears almost certain we'll get more mounts later on which we can amortize the other 50%.

Blanchard of Caterpillar told us he understood Youngstown Sheet & Tube was going to buy some locos and Henry Guy asked me to write Bob Reusch at Pittsburgh to find out if he knew anything about it; I did with copy to Shapter. Shap sent copy to Whitey with a note to this effect - "Such things as this should be referred to this office before being written. We have had this up for some time and it is well in hand." I told Henry and he advised me to "think nothing of it." Am wondering what Whitey will say. Shap is right but it is his sour way of reacting that gripes me.

Spent most of the day on the 5"/38 job up in St.L's office with him and Ernie Shank and Dick Hurley. It appears we will have it all ready tomorrow so we'll drive to Sch'dy. Sunday. St.L. isn't going although Clark rather urged him to and I myself think it might be a good idea. However, I got a letter from Clark today and a telephone call, and a copy of a letter from McIntyre so I really think I've made some progress at last in getting 'em swung into the proper channels. Clark said Goss had phoned and were up against it - their
