Emmet, St.L., Walt Harris, Ernie Shank and I had a session at the office giving the 5/38 story a final review before publication and it looks as though I'll get away tomorrow all right although at the moment (7 30PM) Ernie hasn't yet appeared with the final presentation - said he might deliver it any time up to midnight. About the most we can hope for is that this bid will form a basis for negociation - on account of the fact no provision is made in the Navy Schedule for amortization of extra plant equipment (legal technicalities prevented its being put in finally) there seems no feasible way of then placing a contract on this schedule.

We are getting all set to go in the morning and the children are much excited of course. They had a treat tonight when we had dinner at The Den and it seemed better than ever. Shades of Ed Kelly, Dutch Law, Ken Cartwright et al! Hope we can repeat these times again some day - they were good times.

The war doesnt seem to affect us much right now - this the lull before the blitzkrieg on England - but it is slow in coming and there are rumors all is not well on the Axis front for some reason. In the meantime the Royal Air Force is pounding Germany daily with terrific bombing attacks and the dope is, has done as much or more damage to Germany as Germany has done to England so far. One can only hope and pray the British may win but it looks like a desperate proposition at best. The "Battle of Britain" is due any day and when it comes, all hell will be let loose.
