Basin Harbor Vt.
Tuesday, Aug. 6, 1940.
We had our proposition in 100% shape by 10:30 AM and then sat and waited for a hearing before the Defense Committee. Word came through that Jack Cunningham and Chet Lang didn't want to see our job - only [[?Farrar]] and W[[?]]. W[[?]] was tied up. It looked like we'd see them about mid-afternoon and by noon I was jittering about how we'd get to Basin Harbor today. Finally I decided to shove off, [[?Farrar]] agreeing over the phone with Clark, it was okay. Cliff said he didn't see how they could change much anyhow and he knew my slant on the whole job. So we left for Basin Harbor about 1:30 PM.

We saw the Tafts the first thing after pulling in and as luck would have it, their cottage is right next to ours! We had a small reunion before we even went into our cottage, which is right on the lake although screened somewhat from it by trees. "Cedar Rest" is its name and while not pretentious, it is all we need and very comfortable. The whole place is [[underline]] beautiful [[/underline]]! It certainly comes up to the claims made for it and we are delighted. I shan't try to describe it here as I'm going to get a reel or so of movies to do that for the record. We got in about dinner time & had a couple of "shallow ones" at the Tafts before dinner by way of celebration. Spent the evening looking around a bit and to bed early and pretty well tired out.
