This evening we took the Sunset Sail across the lake and into a cove surrounded by steep wooded slopes where our history may well have been made.  Later the Cratons, Tafts and Mrs. Pertsch went to Vergennes to see the Saturday night life and found plenty of it.  Mrs. Taft has a sore throat and we went into the drugstore for soft refreshments and a throat remedy.  When the druggist came around, Taft leaned over to him and said, "Say, can you tell us if these girls are okay?  We just picked them up out here on the street."  The druggist looked surprised, embarassed and finally grasped the fact that Taft was kidding and looked much relieved - particularly as he knew Mrs. Pertsch from other years.

The Commodore has  one failing, like John St. Laurence - he can't keep names straight.  For example:

1.) He frequently refers to the Pertsches as the Beaches and vice versa.
2.) The Homestead is frequently the "Hempstead"
3.) Basin Harbor is "Harbor Basin".
4.) Dominay is "Dominick".
5.) The McChesneys are the "McChenerys."
6.) The prize one was when he was telling me about the friend who was in the last war and didn't propose to be in this one because he had done all he was going to in that line including building "tureens."

There is one girl here who attracts the attention of all - one "Chips" - a red headed, homely youngster whom I admire because she has refused to allow
